MG5: The first coupe for young people, it’s such a great pick!

What I like most
What I love most are its appearance and power. As someone who prioritizes looks, I fell for the MG5’s fastback silhouette the moment I saw it. Its aggressive large front grille delivers a strong sporty vibe, nothing like other cars at this price range. The color I chose shines brightly under sunlight and draws tons of attention.
In terms of performance, the 1.5L engine responds instantly. Overtaking in urban traffic is effortless, and I’m often the first to pull away at traffic lights. It can satisfy me whenever I feel like some spirited driving.
What I dislike most
There are two main downsides. First, sound insulation is just average. Above 80 km/h on the highway, wind and tire noise become noticeable, so I have to turn up the music. Second, the interior has quite a lot of hard plastic. The new car had a strong odor at first; I placed multiple charcoal bags before it faded gradually.
Space
For a fastback coupe, the space is more practical than expected. I’m 178 cm tall. With the front seat adjusted for me, there’s still headroom left. Rear legroom is roughly two fists, while headroom is a bit tight but usable.
The 479L trunk can hold a 28-inch suitcase plus camping gear. The rear seats feature a 4/6 split-folding design. This performance is pretty decent among A-class sedans.
Driving Experience
The 1.5L engine delivers snappy power response for occasional fun drives. The 360° panoramic camera has crisp images, which is a lifesaver for passing on narrow roads.
Fuel Economy
I’ve driven more than 500 km so far. Fuel consumption hits around 8L/100km in heavy city traffic and drops to 6.5L/100km on express roads. It runs on 92-octane gasoline, costing roughly 0.5 CNY per kilometer — quite economical for a 1.5L engine.
Exterior
I bought the MG5 mainly for its stunning looks; it grabs plenty of eyes on the road. It features the brand’s signature “Shark-hunting” large grille paired with the Fastback shape. My friends even asked if this car costs 200,000 CNY.
Interior
More dynamic than the older model. It supports navigation sync and voice control, creating a fantastic ambient vibe for night drives. Docked one star because of the hard plastic in some areas and the strong new-car smell.
Cost Performance
You can hardly find another car with this size at this price point. Unbeatable value for money.
Features
The integrated sport seats offer great side support. It comes with automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, and keyless entry. The only letdown: Level 2 driver assistance is only available on the top trim.
